In order to reduce deficits, New York's MTA board approved rate hikes that will see $2.50 bus and subway rides, among others.
In a series of three 12-1 votes, the board also approved deep service cuts and layoffs, and the suspension of its five-year expansion and upgrade plan.
However, MTA chairman Lee Sander said that it is not too late if the state decides to produce a bailout plan.
