If it were to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, texting while driving would be banned. But it is not up to him to make his decision, but the State Legislature's.
The idea of banning the use of electronic devices more particularly texting is due to several studies pointing that most car accidents are due to this said practice.
Regarding this matter, New Hampshire and Oregon already banned this practice.
